Community Workshops

Part of our mission is community education and skill-building focused on home weatherization and energy efficiency. Since we started our workshops in 2010, we completed 25 Home Weatherization and Energy Efficiency Basics Workshops. These workshops are 1.5 hours long and provide information on lifestyle and home repair/weatherization choices that reduce home energy use. Workshops are based on BPI Energy Auditing/Whole House as a System Science, and explain do-it-yourself tips and the full BPI Energy Auditing process.

We also hand out Weatherization Kits, valued at $20, that include basic start-up materials for home weatherization. These workshops are available to everyone and they are currently the only pro-active program for renters in Madison County. In 2011, we hope to expand into additional hands-on workshops in people's homes. Please contact us if you are interested in hands-on workshops in weather stripping, air sealing in attics and crawl spaces, air sealing in the conditioned space of the home, insulating or duct sealing.

HEP will start up our workshop schedule again in Oct. 2011, averaging two workshops per month during the heating season. We are looking for host site for our workshops. If you or your congregation, civic group, neighborhood or company wishes to host a workshop, please contact us. Host site are only responsible for provide meeting space and assisting in publicity amongst your group. Please check our upcoming events on our HOME page for scheduled workshops.
